Madagascar 3 takes a new turn. The truth is, this movie is extremely
funny and far better than Madagascar 2. Never a dull moment while watching, and
every scene makes you eager to see what’s next. The makers went overboard and
decided to make the movie unrealistic to the core, Tom and Jerry style, which I
very much appreciated, but I think some others may feel went to far.
DreamWorks Animation’s CEO, Jeffrey Katzenberg, confirmed in 2008 that
there would be a part three to Alex and his crew’s adventure, promising us that
we’d see them return to New York.
The animation is just as good as the other installments, and as usual,
the producers gave King Julien XIII his own story — this time, a romantic one.
But he wasn’t the only one with a romantic arc in this movie.
The crew is joined by a bunch of circus animals they met while trying to
escape from Captain Chantel DuBois, the leader of animal control in France.
Madagascar 3 features our old crew — Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman — who were abandoned by the penguins and monkeys trying to buy their way back to America. That didn’t work, and they ended up in France, Monte Carlo to be exact.
Alex and the crew found the penguins in Monte Carlo and started chaos that led to the introduction of DuBois — the meanest and cruelest animal control officer there ever was and ever will be. Their journey takes them through Europe, where they find the perfect cover: a traveling circus, which they join and reform.
The most impressive addition, and the star of the movie to me, was Chantel DuBois. She was a cross between Terminator, Rambo, and a bloodhound. You’ll love the way she smashes through walls, tracks down Alex and his gang, and seems totally unstoppable. But no matter how badass she was, the penguins were better.
The lines, the screenplay, and the penguins were far too much for my stomach to handle. There’s a rumor that there’ll be a fourth installment — I hope it’s true. One thing to add is the voice acting, it was also grand, and made you just get engrossed in the movie, wonderful casting.
With all that said, I still feel the animation would have worked better if the unrealistic antics were toned down a bit. The DuBois character was too much of a handful at times, and sometimes it worked and other times it was annoying. There are aspect of the animated story feels a whole lot repetitive, like you have seen this run before in the previous instalments.
Did Alex and the rest make it back to Central Park?
That you have to find out yourself. So when it’s out in a cinema near you, make sure you queue up to see it.
